Blue woke a couple hours later, refreshed and eager to strategize on the next step. She spotted a small pile of clothing on the dresser by the bed. Forrest or Moâata must have left them for her. She quickly closed the connecting door and took another bath, dressing in her clean clothes. Heaven, thy name is âcleanâ. She knocked on the connecting door. Not hearing anything, she cautiously opened it and peeked into the room next door, half hopeful and half fearful that sheâd see something like earlier. Laughing at herself when no one was in sight, she stepped fully into the room, calling out, âHello? Moâata? Forrest?â She didnât think they would have left her alone, with all the earlier talk of safety and such.
Moâran stepped into the main room from the bathroom. âThey are not here. Forrest and Derrick went to the stables with Kaâman to check on the mounts. Moâata needed to check in with some of his contacts, and asked me to keep an eye on you while he was gone.â
âSo, what now?â
âNow we wait. Once he is back we will know more and set up the visit to the liaison. We need to make sure it happens when the chuka is there.â
âWhat do we do while we wait?â
âHonestly, I thought you would sleep longer. You have been looking pretty exhausted.â
âI thought Iâd sleep longer too, but I feel amazing,â she said, smiling and eager.
âWell come on then, we will keep you busy,â he said, heading for the door that led to the hall.
âWhere are we going?â
âYou are going to go check on that Beast of yours.â
âPicked up on the name I gave him, huh?â
âYeah, it is appropriate. And quite amusing when you are muttering to the poor thing under your breath.â
They made their way down to the stables, finding Forrest and Derrick inside, brushing their mounts. They hadnât been noticed yet, and Blue took a moment to study Forrest. He really was quite attractive, and exuded an energy and vitality she hadnât seen in him before. It was subtle, but came out in his movements and gestures, all just a little livelier, a little quicker. Blue wouldnât call it happiness, they were all too worried for that, but something in Forrest loved this, and she would bet it came from his fatherâs side, no matter what Forrest said about that life not being for him. His buttâs not too bad either, she thought, blushing, unable to keep her eyes from dropping down to examine that part of him.
âHey Blue, come to check in on your Beast?â called out Derrick. Her eyes jerked up and she could feel the blood rushing to her face.
Forrest spun around, saw her expression, and blushed in return. This was getting ridiculous. Pretty soon their faces would explode, but at least it would put them out of embarrassment-misery.
âUmmm, yeah. I figured I should show him a little love so he didnât get pouty.â Derrick glanced over at Forrest when she said that, so obvious, and Blue couldnât help but laugh.
